A Spirit of Thankfulness

11/28/2015

What are you thankful for?  What are some of your family's holiday traditions?

This was our focus the two weeks prior to Thanksgiving Break as we finished up with Block A rotation and welcomed back Block B students.

Second grade practiced telling Turkey Time using an analog clock and some video segments on BrainPop.. Selected classes also had the opportunity to chat live with the Great Turkey (a/k/a Mrs. Kent's mother) on Thursday and Friday before break.  Other participated in the Turkey Hokey Pokey, which was lots of fun!

Grades 3 - 5 were able to express their thoughts on paper about things for which they are grateful. All classes shared Thanksgiving themed books, including The Perfect Thanksgiving, which showcased the celebrations of two very different families. Mrs. Kent channeled her inner Emily Post by setting two tables with china, crystal and flatware that represented the families in our story. Students studied informal and formal table settings and learned the proper way/order to use items at their place setting. Students also enjoyed learning about different serving utensils.  Students were also able to see vintage Thanksgiving menus and compare/contrast them to a typical menu that their family enjoys on Thanksgiving Day. Selected students were able to experience writing with a fountain pen.
