Here's what we're doing the next couple of weeks::

Boomer (Mrs. Kent's dog) will make his first appearance on Friday, August 21st. He will visit with specials classes scheduled for Friday and visit as many classrooms as possible for drive-by petting. Not to worry if you don't get to see Boomer this visit. He will be back.

2nd Grade - Expanding on the writing focus currently underway in 2nd grade by sharing "Rocket Writes a Story" by Tad Hills. Compare/contrast Rocket's writing process to the one used in their classrooms. Week 2 will be to share "How Rocket Learned to Read."  Followed by D.E.A.R. time, check-out, maker stations and/or computer time as time and group sizes permit.

3rd & 4th Grades - Review roles of various parties involved in bringing a book to the marketplace.  Focus on job of author, illustrator and publisher. Share "Chloe and the Lion" with entire group, followed by discussion on how each of these key roles was covered in the story.  Followed by D.E.A.R. time, check-out, maker stations and/or computer time as time and group sizes permit.  See also Rocket lesson listed for 2nd grade.

5th Grade - Collaborative lesson with 5th grade teachers on landforms - constructive and destructive forces.  Review Big 6 research model steps. After brief review of constructive/destructive forces, model use of various resources including Destiny, Destiny Web and the Cobb Digital Library (tsunami as keyword) to show students various resources available to them.  Followed by computer stations, Q&A, book check-out and small group research activity as resources/time permit.  See also Chloe and the Lion lesson listed for 3rd & 4th grades. Students will also participate in an activity designed to see how well they can  locate specific information on a website.
